At the Monday, March 24 meeting, North Glengarry council received the report of the total remuneration paid for each council member in 2024. Members received a 5.52 per cent increase in total remuneration compared to 2023.

Chief Administrative Officer Sarah Huskinson explained that the remuneration increase was mainly to offset the rising cost of living.

In 2024, council members were paid a total of $147,786.46 in salary, while in 2023, that number was $144,812.61. Mileage expenses decreased from $8,336.37 in 2023 to $6,513.47 in 2024, a drop of 21.87 per cent.

Mayor Jamie MacDonald’s salary increased from $33,830.10 in 2023 to $34,524.87 in 2024. Deputy Mayor Carma Williams’ salary rose from $21,655.44 to $22,100.20, while Councillor at Large Jacques Massie’s salary increased from $18,951.39 to $19,340.67.

Councillors Michael Madden, Jeff Manley, Brian Caddell, and Gary Martin each received a modest 2.05 per cent rise in salaries, or an additional $361.26, rising from $17,593.92 in 2023 to $17,955.18 in 2024.

Mileage expenses varied by council member, with between $382.89 and $1,957.24 allocated, while workshops and conference allowances and registration ranged from $0 to $6,250.44 each.

The variations in mileage, workshop, and conference expenses reflect differing council members’ responsibilities, including committee meetings, conferences, and other official duties.
