At the Thursday, March 27 meeting, Champlain Township council received a report on the total remuneration paid to each council member in 2024. The remuneration for the year totalled $258,180.76.

Council remuneration for 2024 represents an increase of 11.67 per cent, or an additional $26,981.76 from the 2023 total of $231,199.00.

In 2024, the majority of costs were dedicated to the salaries of council members ($240,446.00), followed by mileage allowances ($12,794.76), and committee meeting compensation ($4,940.00).

Each councillor in 2024 received $24,105.00 in salary, up from $23,178.00 in 2023. This represents an increase of four per cent, or an additional $927.

Committee meeting compensation and mileage amounts varied by member, ranging between $0 and $3,135.07. Variations in these amounts depended on each member’s participation in additional meetings, travel requirements, and other council duties.

Mayor Normand Riopel received a salary of $47,606.00 in 2024, up from $45,775.00 in 2023—an increase of four per cent or $1,831. Riopel also received $1,560.00 for committee meetings, as well as $1,234.24 for mileage, convention, and other expenses in 2024.
