At the March 10 meeting, East Hawkesbury council received the report of the total remuneration paid for each council member in 2024.
The report outlined that the total remuneration for 2024 came to $90,092.62, while in 2023, remuneration totalled $90,590.19. This represents an overall 0.55 per cent decrease in pay from the previous year.
The majority of remuneration costs were dedicated to salary ($85,772.62), and the remainder went to mileage allowances. Mileage allowances did not change from 2023 and remained at the standard $720 per councillor and $1,440 for the mayor.
In 2024, Councillors Monique Desjardins, Stéphanie Sabourin, and Karina Sauvé each received a salary of $15,432.67. Deputy Mayor Jacques Tranchemontagne earned $19,112.67 or 7.38 per cent more than in 2023, while Mayor Robert Kirby received $20,362.94 or 2.99 per cent less that year.
Staff explained that the fluctuations in salary are dependent on differing factors, including increased participation in meetings and other obligatory duties as council members. Tranchemontagne, for example, served as a member of the Police Services Board and of the Prescott-Russell Recreational Trail Committee.
