Community organizer Ryder Finlay is the Ontario New Democratic Party (NDP) candidate in Glengarry-Prescott-Russell in the provincial election taking place on Thursday, February 27.
“I’m running to build a government that actually works for people and not the super-rich!” Finlay exclaimed in a social media post.
Under Leader Marit Stiles, the Ontario NDP has been focusing heavily on social programs and affordability during the election campaign. The five main points of the NDP campaign are; to fight rising costs by providing eligible residents with a monthly grocery rebate, and establishing more consumer oversight to crackdown on alleged grocery store price fixing; hire more doctors; fast track home-building and increase rent control; defend Ontario jobs and require government agencies to source products made in Ontario; and clean up corruption at Queen’s Park.
Other Ontario NDP promises include doubling Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) and Ontario Works (welfare) payments, abolishing hospital parking fees, free or discounted heat pumps, and incentives to make it easier for drivers to purchase electric vehicles.
