On January 15, MRC d’Argenteuil council presented its population announcement for 2025, citing developmental growth within the region’s municipalities. The total population of those permanently residing in Argenteuil has risen from 36,710 to 37,737 individuals, an increase of 1,027 people or 2.8 per cent from 2024.

The announcement comes after the Council of Ministers’ adoption on December 18, 2024, and publication in la Gazette officielle du Québec on December 26.

The MRC d’Argenteuil consists of nine municipalities throughout 1339 kilometres squared, with the largest city being Lachute and the smallest municipality being Wentworth.

According to the population report, the city of Lachute currently boasts a population of 15,292 people, up from the 2021 Census number of 14,100. This increase is followed by Brownsburg-Chatham with 8,146, up from 7,247 residents.

Saint-André-d’Argenteuil has a population of 3,257, up from 3,053 in 2021, while Grenville-sur-la-Rouge is home to 3,041 people, a rise from 2,883. Gore follows with a population increase of 403 individuals to 2,686.

Smaller communities within Argenteuil did not witness as big of a population change. Grenville currently is home to 1,856 residents, Mille-Isles with 1,838, Harrington with 954, and Wentworth with a population of 667.

In 2024, the Institut de la statistique du Québec (ISQ) reported that in Argenteuil, 18.1 per cent of the total population was between 0-19 years old, 54.9 per cent was between 20-64, and 26.9 per cent was 65 or older, showcasing the large working-age demographic of the region.
