On Tuesday, January 14, Brownsburg-Chatham council approved a series of expenditures involving renovations at municipal facilities or the construction of new facilities.
Quebec municipal law allows councils to permit residents of a municipality to register signatures requesting a referendum on proposed regulations. In Brownsburg-Chatham, registries for signatures requesting a referendum were recently established for a regulation allowing up to $2 million to be spent on renovations to the Aréna Gilles-Lupien, and for up to $500,000 to be spent on the project to build a new fire station. No signatures were received for either registry. Council also awarded a contract for $13,000 for new lighting in the parking lot at Aréna Gilles-Lupien.
Council approved a regulation drafted by the Régie d’assainissement des eaux uses de Chatham/Lachute (RAEUCL), which is the inter-municipal agency which manages wastewater systems for the two municipalities. The regulation allows for up to $600,000 to be spent on replacement of pumps at sewage pumping stations.
On January 14, council awarded a contract for new heating units at the municipal garage to Avantage Plomberie of Lachute at a cost of $19,794.54 plus sales taxes. Funds already obtained in a provincial grant will be used to cover the cost.
The baseball field in Brownsburg will also be getting new lighting. Funds from an existing grant will be used to cover the $35,000 cost of the new lighting system at the ballpark.
Council also approved spending $5,000 for new cross-country ski trail maintenance equipment. Cross country ski trails are offered by the municipality at the municipal campground and at Golf Oasis.
