In 2025, Hawkesbury residents will have two more opportunities to dispose of yard waste.

On Monday, October 28, council approved increasing the number of yard waste collection days from 12 to 14. Council had authorized 12 collection days in 2024 as a pilot project. According to a staff report, 68.8 more tons of yard waste were collected than in 2023, and more than 135 tons of yard waste are projected to be diverted from the landfill in Hawkesbury by the end of 2024. In 2023, 66.6 tons of yard waste were collected in the Town of Hawkesbury. The report emphasized that diverting waste from landfills contributes to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

Due to the increased success of the yard waste collections in the past two years, staff recommended continuing to offer the yard waste collections and adding two additional collections.

The yard waste collections planned for 2025 in Hawkesbury will occur between the end of May and the end of November, at a frequency of one collection every two weeks. The two additional collections offer citizens extra opportunities to dispose of leaf and yard waste.
