On Wednesday, October 16, the official groundbreaking ceremony took place for the construction of the new Hawkesbury Municipal Garage, located between Spence Avenue and Harden Street.

“This project, with a total value of $10.8 million, addresses the growing needs of the Town, whose demands are constantly evolving,” said Hawkesbury Chief Administrative Officer Sam Cardarelli.

The municipal administration has retained the services of the Beaudoin as the contractor for the project, which began the work in September 2024. This company was selected in accordance with the tendering process outlined in the municipal purchasing policy.

About the Municipal Garage

Built in the 1970s, the current Municipal Garage on Main Street East was originally designed to meet the standards of that era. With Hawkesbury’s expansion, the standards and needs of the Town quickly exceeded the building’s capacity. Furthermore, the garage had become outdated and required significant modernization work. It was in this context that the construction project was proposed in 2022.

The new garage will provide additional workspace for maintenance and operations, while ensuring secure storage for vehicles and equipment. This will help extend the lifespan of essential equipment for delivering efficient services to citizens. The new municipal garage is scheduled to open in the fall of 2025.
