East Hawkesbury Council unanimously approved a new five-year contract with GFL Environmental Inc. (GFL) that will cover non-hazardous waste disposal for the municipality. The current contract with GFL is set to expire on December 31, 2024.
GFL, formerly Laflèche Environmental Inc., is presently contracted to dispose of solid, non-hazardous waste at the Moose Creek Landfill. The proactive extension will ensure garbage disposal until December 31, 2029.
GFL and council agreed to cap annual increases by no more than five per cent annually. However, additional adjustments will be required if there is a significant rise in fuel or oil costs. The current cost is $65 per metric tonne and will be subject to annual adjustment on January 1 based on the Consumer Price Index.
