The Chief Building Official (CBO) of the Township of Champlain, Jacques Gauthier, has announced retirement plans. Gauthier will be vacating his position to retire after 34 years of dedicated service to the Township and its communities.

In December 1990, Gauthier joined the Township as the Chief Building Official, Building Inspector, By-law Officer, and Animal Control Officer. A person of many trades, Gauthier currently leads a team of four individuals for the Township, including two building inspectors, a by-law officer, and an administrative assistant.

“My favourite part of my job has always been to provide advice and help them [contractors, residents, and entrepreneurs] find solutions to their problems,” Gauthier stated.

“I’ve always made sure that they received their permits on time, and I’d double my efforts in the fall to make sure that their inspections were done before the winter to avoid delays, or in the summer to keep things moving quickly for everyone.”

Always dedicated to the community, Gauthier often refused to take more than a week’s vacation to ensure he was available for residents and contractors. As an integral part of the Township, Gauthier’s work helped to lay the foundation of growth in his department.

Mayor Normand Riopel appreciated Gauthier’s work with the Township, “His hands-on approach, combined with his deep understanding of the building industry, has helped not only structures but trust within our community.”

The Township of Champlain has also announced the full-time Director of Building and By-Law Department/Chief Building Official position is now accepting interested applicants. To apply, please use www.champlain.ca/job and look for the open position under the “Employment Opportunities” section.
