To better assist the community in the event of a prolonged power outage, the Town of Hawkesbury has installed a new generator at the Robert Hartley Sports Complex.

The town received a $50,000 grant from the Ontario government’s Community Emergency Preparedness Grant Program. This amount has been invested in the purchase of an emergency generator for the sports complex, which is designated as a shelter during emergency situations.

This new generator will enhance the town’s ability to respond to crises such as extended power outages, storms, or other unforeseen events. The Sports Complex, which already serves as a reception center for residents during emergencies, will now be better equipped to provide essential services, such as electricity for heating, powering communication systems, and ensuring the continuity of critical services.

“This grant strengthens our commitment to the safety and well-being of our citizens,” said Mayor Robert Lefebvre. “Thanks to this generator, the Sports Complex will become an even stronger pillar during future crises, ensuring that we are prepared to respond effectively to the needs of our community,” added the mayor.

The Community Emergency Preparedness Grant Program aims to help communities enhance their capacity to manage emergency situations by providing the necessary resources to prepare for and respond effectively. The installation of this generator is part of the town’s efforts to increase its resilience to potential disasters.
