Local power linemen are helping rebuild lines and restore electricity to residents of Florida and South Carolina following the extensive damage caused by hurricanes Milton and Helene.

On Tuesday, October 8, seven linemen and a supervisor from utility contractor Sproule Powerline Construction (SPL) in Vankleek Hill went to assist local utility companies with repairing damage from Hurricane Milton in Florida. Milton hit the central part of the state on Wednesday, October 9 with winds of more than 200 kilometres per hour. As of Thursday, October 10, the SPL crews were in Orlando, preparing to begin work.

Before continuing south into Florida, the SPL employees had left Vankleek Hill on September 27 for the area around Pendleton, South Carolina to assist with rebuilding lines following extensive damage in the state from Hurricane Helene.

According to SPL, the experience has been eye-opening for the crews, who have been tirelessly working to help everyone they can.

Pendleton South Carolina residents have appreciated the help from the SPL crews and have offered their own hospitality in return.

“If any of them need anything, Pendleton will take care of you. Thank you for coming to help,” area resident Amanda Jarema posted on social media.
