A gas leak occurred in Lachute on Thursday, July 11.

According to a social media post issued by the city of Lachute, a gas line was damaged earlier in the day during work on private property in the rue Harriet area.

Before the leak was repaired, a security perimeter was established in the vicinity by the fire department as a preventative measure.

The city reminds residents that when a security perimeter is established in the event of a gas leak, only people living or working within the perimeter area need to take special measures.

Whenever a perimeter is established, the fire department always informs the population directly, in particular by going door to door. If citizens are not contacted by the fire department, their residences or places of business are not considered to be in any danger.

The damage also caused an electrical outage in the area. Hydro-Québec crews immediately began working to restore service as quickly as possible.
