Some Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers in Hawkesbury are now travelling on two wheels powered by pedals.

The detachment has established a bicycle patrol unit. A unit of seven local officers has been trained on how to operate police bicycles in the town of Hawkesbury.

Bicycle patrol officers will focus on crime prevention, enforcement of various laws, and being highly visible throughout the Hawkesbury detachment area, including on trail systems, at parks, and throughout residential areas.

The bicycle patrol unit is a unique way for officers to build connections and engage with community members. Citizens can expect to see the bicycle unit present at community events this summer like parades, fundraisers, and police-led initiatives like R.I.D.E. programs and seatbelt clinics.
