The Aberdeen Road and CN overpass on Highway 417 southeast of Vankleek Hill has buckled and the eastbound highway is down to one lane.
On Wednesday, June 5 at around 5:30 pm, a citizen called the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) about the condition of the concrete pavement of the overpass. Officers arrived at the overpass and closed Highway 417 between Highway 34 and County Road 10 due to dangerous conditions.
The Ministry of Transportation inspected the overpass and confirmed it was structurally unsafe. Highway 417 eastbound was completely closed at first, but was later opened with just a single lane instead of two crossing the Aberdeen Road and CN overpass.
According to the Ministry of Transportation, the lane reduction will remain in effect until at least Monday, June 17 while repairs are made.
