The Town of Hawkesbury is distributing a total of $29,000 to seven not-for-profit organizations and activities in the community in 2024.

The largest amount is going to the Hawkesbury Auto Club. The club is receiving $10,000. It will be presenting its annual Auto Expo car show again on Labour Day weekend.

The COMZAC/BIA Espace Green Beaver downtown event space is receiving $5,000. The Old Mill Park Parents Committee and Soccer Pro 17 Association are each receiving $4,000 from the town.

The Prescott-Russell Immigrant Women’s Network, which had previously made a presentation to Hawkesbury council is receiving $2,500, and a $1,000 contribution is being made to the Canadian Mental Health Association.

Originally, $25,000 had been allocated in the 2024 municipal budget for contributions to not-for-profit organizations. However, the review committee which oversees the applications decided the amount should instead be $29,000 so that each of the organizations requesting support could receive it.

At the May 13 council meeting when the grants were approved, Councillor Jeanne Charlebois asked if there are organizations which apply for funding each year. Director of Recreation Geneviève Goule assured Charlebois that such information will be made available.
