A body found in Grenville-sur-la-Rouge on April 22 has been identified as that of a Harrington man who went missing on November 16, 2023.
According to Linda Trottier, the Sûreté du Québec informed her on Thursday, May 9 that the body was her brother, Karl Ward and his death is being treated as a homicide.
The 66-year-old Ward had last been seen on November 16 near his home on Chemin Ward in Harrington. His twin sister Karren had last spoken with her brother on November 13. A thorough search of the surrounding area followed.
On April 22, following a report from a citizen, MRC d’Argenteuil Sûreté du Québec officers were called to the area of Scotch Road and the 10th Concession in Grenville-sur-la-Rouge following the discovery of what has now been confirmed as Ward’s body. An autopsy and further investigation followed.
Trottier said her brother used a distinct keychain which police found. They showed it to her and she was able to identify it as Ward’s.
“The Québec police have been wonderful,” Trottier said. She appreciates their visits to her home and the strong level of empathy they have shown.
Ward’s body remains in the custody of the coroner as the investigation into his homicide is ongoing. As a result, the family has not been able to plan a funeral. Ward, whose parents were the late Elmer and Beryl Ward, was the last surviving of three sons and is survived by Karren and Trottier.
The investigation into the murder of Karl Ward continues.
