A landmark Lachute restaurant is temporarily closed due to a fire in the building.

Firefighters responded at 8:45 pm on Tuesday, May 7 to a fire in the second-floor apartment above the Lachute Holiday Chinese restaurant downtown on rue Principale.

According to Lachute Fire Chief Alain St-Jacques, there were no injuries, but one firefighter was treated for nausea. The building was not destroyed but there was extensive water damage to the restaurant.

St-Jacques said the cause of the fire had not been determined as of Wednesday, May 8.

In addition to firefighters from Lachute, crews from Brownsburg-Chatham, St-André-d’Argenteuil, Grenville-sur-la-Rouge, Gore, Mirabel, and Hawkesbury also assisted. Firefighters were at the scene until 2 am Wednesday.
