The Musée régionale d’Argenteuil Regional Museum has a new Director. Jean-Christophe St-James took over on April 22 following the retirement of Lyne St-Jacques.

In addition to administrative duties, St-James will lead the opening in June, of the Museum’s new venue at the former Anglican Christ Church in Saint-André-d’Argenteuil, and the special programming to mark the 85th anniversary of existence of the Museum.

“It is with great pleasure that the board of directors welcomes Monsieur St-James to the family of the Argenteuil Regional Museum,” said President Luc A. Lépine.

St-James is from Brownsburg-Chatham and began his connection to the museum in the summer of 2019 as a guide-interpreter, when spring flooding forced the museum to leave the Carillon Barracks.

“His resourcefulness and professionalism impressed us all and allowed us to face this ordeal in a positive way. Since then, he has worked, as a contract worker, on the creation of interpretation tools for visits to Christ Church and its heritage cemetery and he also assisted our historian Robert Simard with the installation of new exhibitions at the Christ Church which is now the Museum’s venue,” Lépine said.

St-James has a bachelor’s degree in history and has just submitted his master’s thesis on the history of the Seigneury of Argenteuil at the Université de Sherbrooke.

“It is with deep respect for the history and mission of the Argenteuil Regional Museum that I take charge of this institution as director,” St-James said.

“I am determined to ensure a dynamic revival of our institution, to promote its continued development and to guarantee its sustainability for future generations,” he added.
