Construction has started and the design unveiled for the new school in St-Philippe.

At a ceremonial ground-breaking on Friday, April 26, Centre de services scolaire de la Rivière-du-Nord Director-General René Brisson introduced the design and was joined by Argenteuil member of the National Assembly Agnès Grondin and Brownsburg-Chatham Mayor Kévin Maurice.

“I am excited by today’s announcement, which takes us a little more into the concrete aspects of this magnificent project integrated into its environment. The architectural perspectives revealed today confirm the inspiring and modern qualities of this school, which will nourish the curiosity and desire to learn of future generations of students. The launch of work on a new school is a significant moment and I salute all the actors who contribute to the advancement of this file of which the entire community can be proud,” Grondin said.

The construction plan anticipates that the school will be able to accommodate up to 384 students when it opens for the 2026-2027 school year and represents an investment of more than $28 million. The new facility will replace an existing building.

The project was first announced in September 2020, and at that time the Québec government said the project would cost $20.2 million.

The new school will have an area of 4,200 square metres/45,208 square feet, contain 16 classrooms, and will accommodate students from preschool to the sixth year of primary school.

The two-story building will have a library, a gymnasium, state-of-the-art equipment and collaborative spaces: everything will be there to promote socialization, learning and student success. A landscaped courtyard is also part of the development plan to provide safe outdoor spaces for students.

“I am extremely excited to reach this important milestone in the project. The architectural perspectives unveiled today for the new Saint-Philippe school demonstrate our commitment to the education of our children and will offer them an exceptional learning environment in which to grow. It is a tangible symbol of our vision for the future, where every child will be able to flourish and achieve their full potential,” Maurice said.

Large windows will provide natural light and allow a view of the trees in the interior courtyard from the classrooms.
