On Monday, April 8, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 472 in Hawkesbury hosted a meeting of the Barreau de Prescott-Russell Law Association. The keynote speaker was Supreme Court of Canada Justice The Honourable Michelle O’Bonsawin. Appointed to the Supreme Court in 2022, O’Bonsawin is both Franco-ontarienne and Indigenous. She was born and raised in the Sudbury area is a member of the Odanak Abenaki First Nation near Nicolet, Québec. O’Bonsawin is the first Indigenous individual to serve on the Supreme Court of Canada.
