A new skatepark will soon be built at Larocque Park in Alfred.
On April 3, Alfred and Plantagenet township council accepted an offer from Tessier Récréo-Parc Inc. of Nicolet, Québec to install the skatepark fixtures at a cost of $175,000 plus sales taxes.
For the skatepark project, $198,000 was allocated in the 2024 municipal budget. The township has also received a $150,000 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation for the skatepark.
Director of Parks and Recreation Manon Besner said three companies submitted proposals. She was accompanied at the council meeting by Alfred Youth Committee members Gabriel Duval and Tristan Pommainville who both instigated the idea for a new skatepark. The third member of the committee is Clovis Duval, Gabriel’s brother. The committee worked with Besner on presenting the options to council and received support from the Club Optimiste d’Alfred.
“Tristan and Gabriel did extraordinary work,” Mayor Yves Laviolette said after the presentation. He thanked them and Clovis for their work as a committee.
