As the season for outdoor eating approaches, a Hawkesbury councillor wanted to know how town staff are progressing with possibly allowing food trucks to operate at Confederation Park—or anywhere else around town.
At the March 4 council meeting, Councillor Julie Séguin requested the update. On May 8, 2023, resident Stéphane Léveillé appeared before council asking if it was possible to permit a food truck in the park.
Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Samuel Cardarelli told council that authorizations from the Technical Standards and Safety Authority, which regulates propane gas safety, the Electrical Safety Authority, and the Eastern Ontario Health Unit will be necessary for food trucks to operate within the Town of Hawkesbury. He said a policy is being developed and more information will be presented to council shortly.
Séguin said she appreciated the update and awaits the further information.
Councillor Jeanne Charlebois asked how many food trucks will be permitted, and also inquired if it would be possible to establish a farmers’ market at Confederation Park.
Cardarelli said only one food truck is currently being considered for Confederation Park. He said a farmers’ market is not part of the policy being currently developed but council has the option to recommend a market be permitted at the park.
