In a decision that could be seen as an extended sentence, the lease will be renewed for the L’Orignal Old Jail Museum.

On February 28, United Counties of Prescott and Russell (UCPR) council agreed to renew the lease of the not-for-profit museum organization and the regional government for another five years, retroactive to January 1, 2024.

The UCPR owns the former jail and is reviewing the previous lease to update the document, but that is only a formality as the counties have always intended to renew the lease with the not-for-profit organization.

The rent will not be high for the museum organization once the lease is renewed. The UCPR is keeping it at one dollar for five years.
