To the Editor,

I am pretty sure that anyone who is familiar with Cassburn Road knows how lovely it is. However, unfortunately for everyone, there are people who do not appreciate it, from the folks who think it’s a race track (and it’s not only the cars but the trucks also). At the north end of the road where the residential homes are, there’s a 60 km/h speed limit but at the south end where there are also residential homes the limit is 80 km/h. Lowering the speed limit down to 60 km/h would probably deter a lot of the big trucks from using this road in favor of Highway 34, which may save a few accidents when trying to get these huge vehicles around corners. Not only do we have the racers, but we have the folks who don’t seem to have enough room in their vehicles to take their trash home with them; consequently, our beautiful countryside is littered with boxes of leftovers from fast food outlets, beer and pop cans, plus bottles and debris of every kind of plastic, glass or paper you can think of. There are residents here who take it upon themselves to take a large recycle bag to pick up this mess and believe me, there’s a lot of it. Why they can’t take it home and dispose of it there leaves me “gob smacked”. It would be appreciated if the township could put up a few signs with large penalties for littering and also lower the speed limit.

To the folks who move over when people are walking their dogs, I give a huge THANK YOU.

Respectfully submitted
