Police in Lachute have arrested a suspect related to a drug search on Rue Principale.

On February 20, MRC d’Argenteuil Sûreté du Québec officers made an arrest and carried out a search in connection with drug trafficking at a residence.

This police intervention follows an investigation initiated by information received from the public. A 33-year-old man from Lachute was arrested and later released. He will return to court at a later date in Saint-Jérôme. He could face charges of possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking and offenses under the cannabis law.

During the search, police seized small quantities of cannabis, processed cannabis (Wax), prescription drugs and hashish.

Coordinated by the Ministry of Public Security, the ACCES Cannabis program (Concerted Actions to Counter Underground Economies) is a government initiative established in 2018 intended to combat cannabis smuggling at all stages of supply, ranging from illegal production to neighborhood contraband, throughout Québec. Its objective is to promote the integrity of the Québec tax system, reduce the accessibility of cannabis for young people and direct consumers towards a legal and safe market.

The Sûreté du Québec reminds that any information relating to the trafficking or production of narcotics can be communicated at any time, confidentially, to the Criminal Information Center of the Sûreté du Québec at 1 800 659-4264.
