Two Vankleek Hill Collegiate Institute (VCI) students and one Glengarry District High School (GDHS) student were among medal winning competitors at the recent Eastern Ontario SKLZ competition in Cornwall.

Students from across the Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) competed with students from Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario (CDSBEO) schools, clinching a total of 23 gold, silver, and bronze medals, with 11 individuals and teams advancing to upcoming competitions.

The Tuesday, February 27 competition was held at St. Lawrence College. About 200 participants showcased their skills in 11 different trades. With representation from 19 out of 22 secondary schools, UCDSB had about 120 students compete at SKLZ.

VCI student Anthony Velocci won gold in welding. He will advance to the provincial qualifier competition in Kingston on April 13.

In automotive, student Skyler MacDonald from GDHS won silver and VCI student Kyle Paige-Kack won bronze. Gold went to Grace Meunier-Blaine from North Grenville District High School.
