Relax. It was only a drill.

The emergency alarm sounded at the Orica explosives plant in Brownsburg during the morning of Friday, February 23, causing concern among residents.

However, the town of Brownsburg-Chatham announced shortly after that the alarm was for an annual emergency drill at the plant.

In order for the exercise to reflect reality as closely as possible, the town was asked not to announce the exercise in advance.

The alarm was only an exercise for Orica employees.

In the event of an emergency situation, the Brownsburg-Chatham Fire Department would ensure the evacuation of residents within the determined safety perimeter in addition to the notifications that would be sent by the town’s automated call system.
