The Municipalité régionale de comté (MRC) d’Argenteuil is proceeding with further financial assistance to bring fibre-optic cable for internet to its entire territory.

On January 25, MRC d’Argenteuil council agreed to spend $5,307,000 this year to help complete the project. The fibre-optic lines will be used by Fibre Argenteuil to bring high-speed internet and telecommunications services to rural and remote areas where residents have not previously had access to reliable, affordable, high-speed internet.

Also on January 25, MRC d’Argenteuil council has also approved a zoning regulation amendment previously adopted by Grenville village council on December 4, 2023.

The amended regulation permits a mezzanine level and H4 designated multi-family housing development, an H5 designated collective dwelling development, and allows 48 apartments instead of 36 apartments per building in zone C-801. The changes would permit an apartment building to be constructed on the property currently occupied by a now vacant commercial building fronting Route 344 and the Ottawa River near the approach to the Long Sault Bridge.
