The route of a major cycling tour of Québec includes a small part of Ontario in 2024.

La Grande Tour Vélo Québec takes place from August 2 to 8 this year and is the 30 th anniversary of the event. More than 1,500 cyclists are expected to take part. The route this year is in the Outaouais region and includes the south side of the Ottawa River in Alfred and Plantagenet. École secondaire catholique de Plantagenet, located on County Road 17 is the start and finish point for the tour.

On January 16, Alfred and Plantagenet township council adopted a resolution to have the municipality assist Vélo Québec with the tour. The township will provide extra trash cans, recycling disposal bins, traffic cones to delineate lanes, road closure barriers for parking areas, and picnic tables along the route. The township has also agreed to assist with promotions and communications for La Grande Tour.

A report prepared by Director of Parks and Recreation Manon Besner indicates Vélo Québec has also established partnerships with the school board for the use of the secondary school, the Prescott and Russell Recreational Trail, the United Counties of Prescott and Russell, and La Binerie de Plantagenet for La Grande Tour.

Mayor Yves Laviolette and Councillor Jean-Pierre Cadieux each commented how La Grande Tour Vélo Québec is a good activity for the township to support.
