An earthquake with an epicentre near Valleyfield was felt as far north as Vankleek Hill, Alexandria and Rigaud on Thursday, February 1.

According to the Earthquakes Canada branch of the Department of Natural Resources, a 3.6 magnitude earthquake occurred at 7:37 a.m. Thursday morning. The epicentre was southwest of Valleyfield, seven kilometres west-northwest of Huntingdon.

Earthquakes Canada reports weak to light intensity of shaking was felt in Vankleek Hill, Alexandria, Dalhousie, and Rigaud. The 936 reports of the earthquake being felt were submitted to Earthquakes Canada by individuals living in all of the areas where it was felt. The nearest seismographs, which scientifically measure earthquake intensity, are located in Montréal and Williamsburg.
