The Russell County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid charges following a sexual assault investigation.

On September 9, 2022, shortly after 10:45 p.m., Russell County OPP officers responded to a sexual assault complaint in La Nation Township.

During the investigation, it was determined that a physical altercation occurred between an adult and a youth.

As a result of the investigation, a 43-year-old, from La Nation Township, was charged under the Criminal Code (CC) with:

  • Sexual Assault on a person under 16 years of age (Three counts) CC 271
  • Sexual Interference (Three counts) CC 151
  • Sexual Exploitation (Three counts) CC 153(1)(a)
  • Invitation to Sexual Touching under 16 years of age CC 152 (Two counts)

The accused was held for bail.

The identity of the accused cannot be released in order to protect the identity of the victim under the terms of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA).
