Arks Harvest is a not-for-profit, food-sharing program located at the Club d’age d’or/Golden Age Club, 122 Bond St., Vankleek Hill. Their goal is to create a sustainable program that offers fresh, affordable food for everyone, regardless of income level, while working together with the community. The board is headed by President Nikole Jalbert, Vice President Alishia Jivraj-Davy, Secretary Carolyn Danjaw, and Treasurer Francine Allaire. Together with a group of community volunteers, Arks Harvest operates Mondays 3-8pm and Tuesdays and Wednesdays 10am-6pm with produce baskets ranging in price from $13-$40.
While the majority of the produce is purchased wholesale in Montréal, they also purchase seasonal local produce as much as possible. They offer meat from Fermes Terra Agri, maple products from Fine and Dandy Maple Products, and they work with other community programs, businesses and farmers to ensure that any leftover food is donated, helping to ensure there is little to no waste each week and that food gets to the people who need it the most.
Food sharing programs are making a huge difference within communities across Canada and Arks Harvest is excited to continue their work in Vankleek Hill, serving 150-200 families each week. Volunteers of all ages and student volunteers are welcome and they aim to work with local schools and other groups to ensure their sustainability within the area. They are not only a place to get fresh food but also offer a sense of community as customers often stop in just to socialize as well. Arks Harvest welcomes everyone to visit and see what they are all about!
