Xavier Sauvé of Vankleek Hill is 17 and living a dream.

He graduated from École secondaire publique Le Sommet in Hawkesbury in June of this year and he has been busy getting a 2010 Hyundai Accent Hatchback ready for the Vankleek Hill Fair Demolition Derby being held on Saturday, August 20.

Sauvé said entering the derby was his end of high school summer project.

“I finished high school, I can do what I want, I’m going to do a derby!” he said.

Sauvé found the 12-year-old car on a Facebook ad and paid $350 for it.

“I want to be the one who sticks out,” he said of his aspirations for the big event.

For Sauvé, the Vankleek Hill Fair is all about the demolition derby.

“I’ve been going to the derby every year since I was a kid. It’s the highlight of the fair,” he said.
