The town of Brownsburg-Chatham is planning to organize a local food cooperative.

Earlier this year, the town conducted a survey to gauge interest in setting up a food cooperative; it received 450 responses.

The survey results indicated 96 per cent respondents said they were in favor of implementing the cooperative and that they intend to visit it for their own food needs. Among the respondents, 79 per cent said they would visit the cooperative once or twice a week, and 83 per cent said the best location for the cooperative would be in the centre of Brownsburg.

Out of the responses received, 163 people expressed interest in volunteering for the cooperative and, 61 people expressed interest in being part of the board of directors.

Based on this data, the town is starting the process of recruiting council members and provisional administration of the future cooperative. The town of Brownsburg-Chatham is looking for six people in order to constitute the first Board of Directors of the future Brownsburg-Chatham Food Cooperative. The board of directors will have as main role to see to the creation and proper functioning of the cooperative.
