The Vankleek Hill Business and Merchant Association (BMA) has announced Photo Vankleek Hill–a photo competition that invites photographers of all ages to share their very best photos of Vankleek Hill.

“We invite hobby, amateur, and professional photographers to submit their images for the Photo Vankleek Hill competition, which will culminate in an exhibit of winning photos at Arbor Gallery from October 12 to 16, 2022,” says organizer Louise Sproule, who is also co-chair of the Vankleek Hill BMA.

The theme is “My Hometown. Cherishing Heritage. Building our Future.” What scenes of Vankleek Hill show our heritage at its best? Where are there contrasts? What signs are there of what the future may hold for us? Where does the future intersect with the past?

Submissions and participation for this event are free. Please submit up to two images per category for consideration to an independent jury featuring experts on all things local, photography or design professionals. The top two winners from each of the following categories will have their winning images displayed at Arbor Gallery from October 12 to 16 and will then have their photos displayed in locations along Vankleek Hill’s Main Street for everyone to enjoy!

The categories include:

  • Best Youth Entry (ages 18 under)
  • Best Landscape Entry (horizontal perspective, please)
  • Best Study in Contrasts
  • Best Night-Time Photo
  • Best Streetscape
  • Best Heritage Preserved

The submission deadline is Friday, September 30, 2022 at 11:59 p.m.

Anyone from anywhere in Canada can enter this competition; however, all images must have been taken within the Village of Vankleek Hill boundaries or depict Vankleek Hill from a distance.

The PHOTO Vankleek Hill Competition is brought to you by the Vankleek Hill Business & Merchant Association.

Participants can enter up to two photographs per category.
