Verlander wins 240th of MLB career

Justin Verlander of the Houston Astros won the 240th game of his Major League Baseball career last week in an 11-1 win over the Seattle Mariners.

Coming off Tommy John surgery on his pitching iron, the 39-year-old ace is showing no signs of slowing down, dominating hitters this season and leading the major leagues with 14 wins against only three losses, and sporting a stellar 1.81 earned run average.

Judge hits 40th home run of season

Speaking of amazing, outfielder Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees is having an outstanding season, hitting his 40th home run of the year against the Kansas City Royals last week and then belting a grand slam for his 41st later in the game.

Judge is on pace for 66 home runs this year, which would smash the long standing Yankees record of 61 held by Roger Maris, who broke Babe Ruth’s record of 60 in 1961. Judge, Maris and Ruth are the only Yankees to hit at least 40 home runs before August 1. Ruth did it in 1928 and Maris in his record year of 1961.
