Violent thunderstorms knock out power in region
The Review, July 25, 2012 – VANKLEEK HILL – Despite a swatch of intense thunderstorms that battered Prescott-Russell with heavy rain, howling winds, hail, and an amazing show of lightning on Monday, it was not enough to lift the Level 2 water condition declared last week by South Nation Conservation. Hydro One reported thousands of homes in a area stretching to Alexandria and Cornwall in the east from Barry’s Bay in the west had been affected by outages. Unfortunately the rain and hail did little to dampen drought conditions across the region.

The meters will be placed on both sides of Main Street from John Street (Sproule’s Service Station) to the Bridge Inn, and also on both sides of William Street from Main to Regent. Town officials hope this innovation will be profitable to everybody.

Lawn tennis has become fashionable
The Review, July 28, 1922 – VANKLEEK HILL – Lawn tennis has become the fashionable thing now and the pastime bids fair to catch on, as nightly the new court recently made on the Collegiate grounds is thronged with players. A very strong club has been organized and things seem to be booming. If it induces more fraternity among our townspeople, The Review would be pleased, because we feel that the old-fashioned handshake is badly needed – in fact it is almost entirely scrapped here.
