On July 20, Sûreté du Québec (SQ) officers from the MRC d’Argenteuil station, in collaboration with the national organized crime Squad and Community Street Crime Unit of the Hawkesbury Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), conducted an operation in the fight against the organized crime and the trafficking of illegal firearms, in Grenville-sur-la-Rouge. The intervention was made as part of the SQ’s CENTAURE strategy against organized crime. 

This police intervention followed an investigation initiated thanks to information received from the public. 

The operation led to the arrest of a 52-year-old man allegedly involved in drug trafficking. 

He has been released and is expected to appear in court at a later date. 

During the search, officers seized: 

  • Approximately thirty grams of cocaine 
  • Approximately 250 methamphetamine pills
  • Forty grams of hashish
  • More than $1,300 in cash
  • Two handguns
  • Several ammunition
  • An electric pulse weapon
  • Three bladed weapons prohibited
  • 13 hunting weapons 

The national organized crime enforcement squad is mandated to specifically target the heads of organized crime, including members in good standing of the Hells Angels. The Montréal branch of the squad is made up of police officers from the Sûreté du Québec, the RCMP, the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal as well as the Laval city police.  

The CENTAURE strategy has the mandate to ensure constant pressure on organized crime and actively fight against armed violence in Québec. CENTAURE allows all partner police forces partners to maximize their efforts at national, regional and local level targeting both the supply, importation, distribution and illegal possession of firearms.
