Hawkesbury defenseman earns first round pick in NHL draft

It was great to see a local young hockey talent taken in the first round of last week’s National Hockey League (NHL) draft.

Hawkesbury native Maveric Lamoureux, a defenseman with the Drummondville Voltigeurs of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League was picked 29th overall by the Arizona Coyotes. It’s an amazing opportunity for Maveric, who has the size and the skill to be a top four defenseman on any NHL team.
