Lachute is getting ready to party in August. The first ever Lachute en fête festival will take place on August 5 and 6 at Parc Barron in the centre of town.

The entire park will be set up as a fun area for the whole family with activities for seniors, picnic and relaxation area, refreshment and snack kiosks.

The official announcement for Lachute en fête was made on June 20. Lachute council has made the festival a priority as a way to bring citizens together, encourage family fun, and to showcase artists from the Québec music and comedy scene.

Mayor Bernard Bigras-Denis said the decision was made to have the festival at Parc Barron because it would hopefully benefit downtown restaurants, bars, and shops. A professional stage will be temporarily situated in the park for the festival.

Friday, August 5 is comedy night at Lachute en fête. At 7 p.m., comedians Sam Arsenault, Jacob Ospian-Echeverria, Didier Lambert, and Sinem Kara will get the audience laughing. The show turns musical at 9 p.m. when Madhouse takes to the stage with its repertoire of 1960’s and classic rock covers.

A whole afternoon of family entertainment is planned for Lachute en fête on Saturday, August 6. Zani the clown performs at 1 p.m. Zani’s act includes acrobatics, a unicycle, and juggling. The family festival runs from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. on August 6. It will include bouncy castles, face painting, and crafts. From 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on August 6, L’aventure Juracirque takes place. This Jurassic circus has a dinosaur theme.

Three musical acts are part of the Lachute en fête lineup for August 6, beginning at 6 p.m. with Saratoga and then Marie Claudel at 7 p.m. Vincent Vallières et ses musiciens rounds out the evening at 8 p.m.

Bigras-Denis said the town has secured financial partners and sponsors for Lachute en fête and they will be announced soon. Brasserie Sir John Brewing Company of Lachute will be providing the beer for the event. The mayor said the town will also be seeking volunteers to assist with the festival.

A free shuttle service will be offered to and from Parc Barron for both days of Lachute en fête.
