Champlain Township has repealed the bylaw which established its  COVID-19 vaccination policy. Councillors Violaine Tittley, Andre Roy and Troy Carkner voted against the move. The bylaw to adopt a COVID-19 vaccination policy was approved by council on October 11, 2021. The actual policy, adopted on November 11, 2021, stated that all Champlain Township municipal employees must be fully vaccinated (2 doses) against Covid-19.

Coincidentally, it was noted in the Champlain Daycare report by the director of daycare services Jennifer Drury that it is “still very difficult to find fully vaccinated staff for the Before & After program at L’Atelier and we are still struggling to find teachers.”

Disconnecting from work policy

Champlain Township will be implementing a disconnecting from work policy to comply with provincial regulations governing employers with more than 25 employees.

Its policy states that every employee should disconnect from work outside of their normal work hours, subject to certain exceptions, such as when there is an emergency or an agreement to do so. The policy points out that in the course of their duties, some employees may use employer-provided personal electronic devices such as: mobile phone, laptop, tablet, etc. and notes that these devices are provided to employees to allow flexibility in how employees complete their work, and do not necessarily imply that the employee must make themselves available for work at all times.
