A tragic collision that occurred on Good Friday near Casselman is under investigation.

On Friday, April 15, shortly after 4 p.m., Russell County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a two-vehicle fatal collision on Highway 417 eastbound near the Casselman exit. One of the two vehicles went off the roadway and hit a tree.

La Nation Fire Department and Prescott-Russell Emergency Medical Services (EMS) attended the scene. One adult passenger was confirmed deceased at the scene and the four other occupants were transported to hospital with serious injuries. The lone occupant of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries.

The OPP Traffic Collision Investigators (TCI) attended the scene to assist and the investigation remains ongoing.

Due to the ongoing investigation, Highway 417 eastbound is currently closed between kilometre marker 66 and kilometre marker 79. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Russell County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
