During the week of March 14 to March 20, officers with the Russell County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to more than 280 calls for service. These included:

Impaired

On March 16, at approximately 12:45 p.m., Russell County OPP officers responded to a traffic complaint on Laurier Street in Rockland, where an Ontario driver was arrested.

During the investigation, it was revealed that the motorist was impaired by drugs and was then transported back to the detachment to be evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE).

As a result of the investigation, a 53-year-old female from Rockland, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs CC 320.14(1)(a)

On March 17, shortly after 10:45 p.m., a Russell County OPP officer conducted a traffic stop for a Highway Traffic Act (HTA) offence on Notre-Dame Street in Embrun, where an Ontario driver was arrested.

During the investigation, the officer utilized an Approved Screening Device (ASD) on the motorist. The driver was transported to detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, a 28-year-old man from North-Dundas Township, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) CC 320.14(1)(b) and
  • Having care or control of a motor vehicle with open container of liquor LLCA 42(1)(a)

On March 18, shortly before 12 a.m., Russell County OPP officers responded to a single vehicle collision on Route 300 in Russell Township, where an Ontario driver was arrested. There were non-life threatening injuries. Two passengers were transported to the hospital by the Prescott-Russell Emergency Medical Services (EMS).

During the investigation, the officer utilized an Approved Screening Device (ASD) on the motorist. The driver was transported to detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, a 20-year-old male from Embrun was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) CC 320.14(1)(b)

On March 19, at approximately 3:45 p.m., Russell County OPP officers responded to a traffic complaint on Richelieu Street in Rockland, where an Ontario driver was arrested.

During the investigation, the officer determined that the motorist had been consuming alcohol and was impaired. The driver was transported to detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, a 56-year-old male from Ottawa was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs CC 320.14(1)(a);
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) CC 320.14(1)(b) and
  • Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor LLCA 42(1)(a)

The motorists received a 90 day driver’s license suspension and the vehicles were also impounded for seven days.

The accused are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in L’Orignal at a later date.
