The Township of Champlain has rescheduled its annual large waste collection – normally held in May – to the fall. The opening of the municipal landfill, planned for May 1, has also been delayed to a later date.

The Township had no option other than to make the decision, as the permit for the use of the municipal landfill site, located at 1897 Cassburn Road, is under review by the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks. As a result, the ministry will not have the approved permit filed in time to coordinate the annual large waste items spring collection.

Revised Schedule for 2022 – Annual Large Waste Items Collection

To facilitate spring cleaning, each household in Champlain will be allowed to bring and dispose of the equivalent of what is permitted during the annual clean-up (four pieces of furniture/appliance) to the municipal landfill once it is re-opened in 2022, free of charge. Residents can visit the Champlain Township website for the list of items that will be accepted.

The township continues to work with the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks to resolve the issue, and will communicate the opening date of the municipal landfill site once the information is available.

There are no changes to the regular garbage and recycling collection schedule.
