For 13 years, World Read Aloud Day has called attention to the importance of sharing stories by challenging participants to grab a book, find an audience and read-aloud on Feburary 2. This global effort, created by the non-profit LitWorld and sponsored by Scholastic, is celebrated annually in over 173 countries and is all about bringing people together through the shared connection of reading aloud in all communities.

Did you know that more parents are reading aloud to their young children than ever before? According to a 2018 Kids & Family Reading Report, 77 per cent of parents with children ages five and under say read-aloud time started before their child turned one. Also, the family read-aloud experience is overwhelmingly positive and that the read-aloud frequency diminished as children grew older.

In celebration of World Read Aloud Day this year, Scholastic has highlighted 30 books that will make you feel excited and inspired to celebrate reading aloud with those near and far. The Champlain Library also has many books that are suitable for this experience, and can be found in the library’s collection. You’ll be surprised what you’ll find.

So celebrate World Read Aloud Day on February 2, 2022 – grab a book, find an audience and read aloud! For more information on World Read Aloud Day visit Scholastic. For more information on the Champlain Library or to search the library’s collection visit bc-cl.ca or call 613-678-2216.
