Police services across Québec and the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) motor vehicle registration agency have released statistics on intensified enforcement against impaired driving during the last holiday season. The campaign took place on roads across Québec from November 26, 2021, to January 3, 2022.
During this period, more than 3,500 roadside checks targeting impaired driving due to alcohol, drugs or both took place:
- More than 650 drivers were arrested for driving while impaired by alcohol, drugs or both
- More than 1,400 drivers provided a breath sample
- More than 130 drivers underwent movement coordination tests
The enforcement operation during the holidays was a partnership between the Association des directeurs de police du Québec, la Sûreté du Québec, Service de police de la Ville de Montréal, and the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec.
