St-Bernardin residents handed over empty bottles and cans on Sunday, January 2 to raise money for new playground equipment at Jean-Paul Charlebois Park in the village.

The event was the first fundraiser held by the park’s revitalization committee. The can and bottle drive was organized by Shanna McIlwain-Dupont, Mariève Thériault-Konrad, and La Nation Ward 1 Councillor Marie-Noëlle Lanthier.

Volunteers of all ages helped gather and sort the cans and bottles, which were collected door-to-door or dropped off by residents at the community centre. The bottles and cans were then taken to Brewer’s Retail, so return deposit money could be collected for the playground fund.

According to Lanthier, approximately $1,250 was raised from the can and bottle drive, and an additional $555 in cash donations were received on Sunday. That means, $1,808.55 was raised for improvements to Jean-Paul Charlebois Park in St-Bernardin.

“Needless to say, we are very, very pleased with the results of this event!” Lanthier said.
