To The Editor,

The mayors of Prescott-Russell are considering a request from residents of Prescott-Russell to create a climate action plan.

On Wednesday, November 10, at 9 a.m., members of the UCPR coalition for climate action and officers of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities will present to the UCPR Council a process for planning how to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from our region. People can watch the meeting live on Youtube. The link can be accessed via UCPR’s website the morning of the meeting (Category: Committee of the Whole): http://en.prescott-russell.on.ca/cms/one.aspx?portalid=2375205&pageid=2784663

The world is holding its breath awaiting international climate action. Municipal decisions affecting transportation, water and waste management, buildings and land use also influence our collective emissions. Over 400 Canadian municipalities have enacted policies to reduce their emissions and benefit from opportunities in a low-carbon economy. The presentation to Council on November 10 will give mayors an opportunity to consider similar action for the UCPR.
