To the Editor:

The Christmas season is fast approaching which means preparations have already begun at our local food bank. The Vankleek Hill Food Bank will once again be holding its food drive in front of the Foodland grocery store on Highway 34.

We are asking residents of Vankleek Hill, Hawkesbury-East, Chute-à-Blondeau, Saint-Eugène, Ste-Anne-de-Prescott, and St-Bernardin to look for us in front of Foodland on Highway 34 in Vankleek Hill on Saturday November 27 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

There, you can either drop off items from your own pantry or purchase a pre-filled bag from Foodland to donate. The Food Bank accepts all non-perishable food items. There is always a need for personal care products, peanut butter, Cheez Whiz, instant coffee, tea, canned meats and tuna, canned fruit, canned vegetables, pasta, pasta sauce, crackers, cereal, and most other non-perishable food items. As always, cash donations are most welcome.

Please rest assured that the Food Bank volunteers will be taking all the necessary precautions to receive these items from you in a safe manner.

Registration for Christmas Baskets has already started and will continue until the end of November.  If you are in need and wish to receive a Christmas Basket, please call the Vankleek Hill Food Bank, Monday to Friday, at 613-678-8119 and leave a message with your name and phone number.  A member of the Food Bank will call you back and collect all the details they require to insure that you are on our list of recipients.

The Vankleek Food Bank wishes to thank Foodland for providing us with an ideal location for our Food Drive and also a huge thank you to our community for their generosity, not only during this holiday season, but throughout the year.

Thank you,
Mike McGurk
VKH Foodbank Co-Director
